The Walking and Climbing Company

Langtang Trek

On arrival in Kathmandu time is allowed to relax following your journey, to explore the abundance of places to see of cultural interest or simply to wander around, shop and take in the atmosphere. The trek begins following a drive to the village of Syabrubesi on the banks of the Bhotse Kosi River. You will trek from here to the Lama Hotel along a route that takes you through terraced fields of crops, forests of oak, alder and bamboo and across streams.

The are some steep stretches and the terrain is wonderful with rivers, waterfalls, forest and a lot of wildlife such as monkeys, panda and a wide variety of birds such as hawks and buzzards.

The Langtang village is your next stop with a fairly tough day of walking taking you above the Langtang Khola River and in the National Park area of Langtang. The locals farm potatoes, wheat and turnips in land enclosed by stone walls. Time is built in to allow for acclimatisation having reached altitude of around 3500 metres at this stage of the trek.

From here is a short walk to Kyanjin Gompa from where there are the most superb views of the famous mountain Langtang Lirung (7246m) and the surrounding major glaciers. Time is planned to explore this area with a trek up to Chergo Ri for even better views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang glacier and the numerous mountains visible from this vantage point. No description can do justice to the magnificence of the scenery of this area.

Beginning the trek towards home you visit the area of Thulo Syabru having trekked down the valley and crossed the Langtang Khola River reaching terraced fields and farm houses again. Going onto Dunche village there is a short drive back into Kathmandu.

This is a great area for trekking in the spring and autumn seasons. The trek is suitable for walkers as opposed to climbers as it is very much a walk and although an altitude of around 4000 metres is reached there is plenty of time to allow acclimatisation.

Once back in Kathmandu there is time to relax and explore the temples, shops and restaurants before your return flight home.
