Island Peak
This is one of the more popular trekking peaks in Nepal’s Everest region – the peak of this mountain reaches 6,189 metres above sea level. After arriving in Kathmandu you'll have sufficient time to acclimatise, purchase any equipment you need and see the city before taking a short flight to Lukla, deep in the mountains. From here, the trek takes you through Namche Bazaar, the heart of the Sherpa community and to Tengboche, where there is time to visit the famous Buddhist monastery if desired. The peak is then only a few days trekking from here and includes some stunning views of Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and Everest itself along the way.

"It was 11:00am. We were tired and tearful having just climbed Imjatse (Island Peak) at 6189 metres surrounded by the great peaks of Everest, Lohtse & Nuptse. It was stunning. The Sherpa guides were so professional and cheerful hard work - It was a wonderful adventure." Ian McMinn |
Further time to acclimatise is built into the itinerary to enable climbers every chance of being sufficiently adjusted for the altitude. The peak involves some climbing with crampons and ice axe and areas where the group is roped. Previous experience is preferable and a good level of fitness is essential. There will be a team of experienced high altitude Sherpas on hand to assist and guide everyone during the climb if required and a team of porters and low altitude Sherpas to organise equipment, tents and food.
This mountain is a truly exhilarating climb with breathtaking scenery and with good weather it is not unusual for the whole group to reach the summit.
