Ganden to Samye Trek (Tibet)

After flying to Nepal, the holiday starts with two nights in Kathmandu to take in this fascinating city, including an optional sightseeing tour of some its historic areas and temples.

This is followed by a short flight to Lhasa in Tibet, where you spend time exploring the historical centre of the Tibetan Buddhists and take the opportunity to visit Potala Palace, the Barkhor markets and Norbulinka, the former home and summer palace of the Dalai Lama.

From Lhasa you are driven to Nam tso Lake, the second largest salt water lake in the country, a beautiful turquoise colour in April and surrounded by fabulous views of the nearby mountains. The trek begins at Ganden, heading for Yama Do, Tsotup Chu Valley and then to the herders camp and Samye monastery. You will be at altitude, so time is taken to help you acclimatise along the way. The trek is in a stunning area with a variety of terrain - valleys, rivers, lakes, forest and stunning mountain views.

Along the way you will encounter the people of Tibet, including herders, villagers and monks, all unmistakably influenced by the Tibetan Buddhist culture and a wonderful experience.

Later, you will spend time in some of the towns and villages including Gyantse, Xigatse and Nyalam and visit Milarepa's cave. These places will provide a chance to visit local monasteries, walk in the area and take in the beautiful, surrounding scenery.

The adventure holiday concludes by travelling back to Kathmandu, ready for your onward flight.
