Everest Region/Base Camp Family Trek
This two or three week holiday starts with some free time in Kathmandu to sightsee and explore this fascinating and exciting city. There are numerous things to do for the family, including visiting the Monkey Temple, the Kings Palace and numerous other temples and monasteries. This allows time to rest after your flight to Nepal.
The holiday continues with a short flight over the Himalayas to Lukla, which provides the most amazing insight into the sheer scale of this mountain range. From Lukla you trek slowly to Namche Bazaar, the heart of the Sherpa community. More time is allowed here for acclimatisation and the chance to appreciate views of Everest. The trek continues to Tengboche and its wonderful monastery, where you’ll have the opportunity to meet the monks who live there.
The group will divide at this point with the ‘two week group’ moving on to the village of Pangboche before returning to Kathmandu. The ‘Base Camp Group’ will continue to Kalapathar, seeing more stunning views of Everest on the way as well as other significant mountains. From Kalapathar you continue to Everest Base Camp itself before finally returning to Kathmandu.
This adventure holiday of a lifetime is designed for, but not exclusive to, families. It allows time to be in the mountains, to be involved with expeditions on Everest and can include the whole family. The trek will be challenging and requires a reasonable level of fitness. It will be exciting as well as educational for children. The minimum age for children will be discussed, but as a guide, we suggest eight years of age depending on their level of maturity.
