THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH'S AWARD OPEN GOLD

EXPEDITIONS IN NEPAL AND TIBET

The Walking and Climbing Company has been a DofE Approved Activity Provider since 2008 offering the unique opportunity to Duke of Edinburgh's Award participants to complete their expedition in Nepal and Tibet. The following details outline the forthcoming expeditions. These trips are open to individuals booking as well as groups. Support with completing the required practise expedition prior to assessment is also available.

EVEREST BASE CAMP – NEPAL

What a way to achieve your Gold Award expedition! To have completed one of the most famous treks in the world. The required 5 days of assessed expedition is a part of this great trek to the Base Camp of the highest mountain in the world. The trip includes time visiting the sights of Kathmandu, time with the locals in mountain villages and is an experience of the Buddhist culture. It is a trip of a life time. ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP - NEPAL

The Annapurna region of Nepal is one of the most beautiful areas of the Himalayas and lends itself exceptionally well to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The route to Annapurna Base Camp follows mountain trails established over many years by the local people and for planning your route, maps will be provided that show these trails and the whole area.

At the start of the trip time will be spent in the vibrant city of Kathmandu and then Pokhara which will give a great insight into the Nepalese and Buddhist culture. The trek will pass through various remote villages where the locals are friendly and welcoming. Further details can be seen by following this link:

GANDEN SAMYE TREK – TIBET

The expedition starts in Chengdu, China before travelling into Tibet. Time is spent exploring Lhasa the capital city where there is much to see including the Potala Palace, the Jokang temple, and the Bharkor Bazaar. The trek is in a stunning area with a variety of terrain - valleys, rivers, lakes, forest and stunning mountain views. The goal is to reach the Samye Monastery however the participants will choose their route through the stunning Tibetan landscape. The terrain is challenging and this trek will take the groups to an altitude of over 5000 metres. The participants will camp, cook for themselves and carry much of their equipment. It will be an experience that will require the groups to work as a team, take care of others and utilise the skills they will have learned in their preparation for their assessment.
