Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Walking and Climbing Company Ltd
are specialists in trekking and mountaineering adventure
holidays in the Nepal and Tibet Himalayan Mountain range.
Trips are categorised by their level of challenge starting with
walks for all, to trekking peaks for those looking to push
themselves further, to climbing expeditions for experienced
mountaineers.
All are designed carefully to ensure you have the time of your
life and have the support of experienced guides to ensure the
smooth running and safety of your adventure.
A number of these trips are run as Duke of Edinburgh
‘Expeditions’ or ‘Adventurous Projects’. There is also the
opportunity to complete charity project work through links The
Walking and Climbing Company have in these countries.
The Walking and Climbing Company work in conjunction with
schools and Colleges to enable groups from these organisations
to plan and run their Duke of Edinburgh Award. A close working
relationship is built up to ensure the requirements of the
school or College are met, the students have the support and
preparation they need and every opportunity to achieve their
awards.
Pre trip talks and training can also be arranged and all
participants will as a minimum have contact with the Company to
discuss their preparation as needed. This covers areas such as
fitness, routes, equipment, vaccinations, culture and what to
expect from the environment.
The UK practice in the year prior to travel will also be
arranged if required and is a great way for groups to bond and
to ensure the students are ready for the rigors of the trip
ahead.
The Walking and Climbing Company carefully design their trips to
ensure participants have the time of their life and have the
support of experienced staff to ensure the smooth running and
safety of the adventure.
The
company operates under BS8848 safety standards is TOPP bonded
and includes insurance within all trips.

Everest Base Camp Trek - Nepal - The group will trek slowly up to Namche Bazaar where the Sherpa people originate from and the main route into the Everest region. Time will be needed here for acclimatisation and Everest can be seen amongst many other famous mountains in this range. The trek continues on to Everest Base Camp passing through villages with the opportunity to interact with the locals and experience the culture of these fascinating mountain people. (more) |

Ganden Samye Trek - Tibet - The expedition is in a stunning area of Tibet with a variety of terrain - valleys, rivers, lakes, forest and stunning mountain views. Along the way you are likely to encounter the people of Tibet from herders to villagers to monks, they are a wonderful race and an inspiration to experience due to the unmistakable influence of the Tibetan Buddhist culture. Helambu Walk - The trek in the Helambu region starts with a short drive north from Kathmandu to Sundarijal. There are numerous trails to follow in this region so the young people can safely devise their route from local maps. The area is versatile so there is also flexibility on the number of days needed to complete a trek.
