Annapurna Base Camp Open Award - The Annapurna area is one of the most beautiful areas of the Himalayas and lends itself exceptionally well to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The route to Annapurna Base Camp follows mountain trails established by the local people and maps will be provided that show theses trails and the whole area. The famous Annapurna mountain range includes peaks towering over 8000 metres so the scenery around you as you complete this trek is simply stunning. This Open expedition is available to any D of E participant and everyone must have completed their practise expedition successfully prior to starting the trek. (more)
Everest Base Camp Trek - Nepal - The group will trek slowly up to Namche Bazaar where the Sherpa people originate from and the main route into the Everest region. Time will be needed here for acclimatisation and Everest can be seen amongst many other famous mountains in this range. The trek continues on to Everest Base Camp passing through villages with the opportunity to interact with the locals and experience the culture of these fascinating mountain people. (more)
Ganden Samye Trek - Tibet - The expedition is in a stunning area of Tibet with a variety of terrain - valleys, rivers, lakes, forest and stunning mountain views. Along the way you are likely to encounter the people of Tibet from herders to villagers to monks, they are a wonderful race and an inspiration to experience due to the unmistakable influence of the Tibetan Buddhist culture. Helambu Walk - The trek in the Helambu region starts with a short drive north from Kathmandu to Sundarijal. There are numerous trails to follow in this region so the young people can safely devise their route from local maps. The area is versatile so there is also flexibility on the number of days needed to complete a trek. This area will allow the group to travel through fir and rhododendron forests, flower meadows and along side streams (more)

The Walking and Climbing Company Ltd are specialists in trekking and mountaineering adventure holidays in the Nepal and Tibet Himalayan Mountain range.

Trips are categorised by their level of challenge starting with walks for all, to trekking peaks for those looking to push themselves further, to climbing expeditions for experienced mountaineers.

All are designed carefully to ensure you have the time of your life and have the support of experienced guides to ensure the smooth running and safety of your adventure.

A number of these trips are run as DofE Award 'Expeditions'. There is also the opportunity to complete charity project work through links The Walking and Climbing Company have in these countries.

The Walking and Climbing Company work in conjunction with schools and Colleges to enable groups from these organisations to plan and run the expedition section of this. A close working relationship is built up to ensure the requirements of the school or College are met, the students have the support and preparation they need and every opportunity to achieve their award.

Pre trip talks and training can also be arranged and all participants will as a minimum have contact with the Company to discuss their preparation as needed. This covers areas such as fitness, routes, equipment, vaccinations, culture and what to expect from the environment.

The UK practice in the year prior to travel can also be arranged if required and is a great way for groups to bond and to ensure all are ready for the rigors of the trip ahead.
